Etsy Fees Explained for EU Sellers (2026): The Complete Breakdown
Ever looked at an Etsy payout and wondered where a third of your sale price went? You’re not the first. And if you’re selling from Europe, most of the guides you’ll find on this are written for US sellers, so they skip the part that actually trips people up: local VAT rules, which change what you pay depending on your country and on one checkbox in your shop settings — whether you’ve registered a VAT number.
So here’s the breakdown, roughly in the order Etsy applies it.
1. Listing fee
A small flat fee per listing, charged in USD and converted to your currency. Same everywhere in theory. In practice, if you’re not VAT-registered, your country’s VAT gets added on top, so what you actually pay depends on where you’re selling from.
2. Transaction fee
6.5% of your order total. Note that’s item price plus shipping plus gift wrapping, not just the item — a lot of sellers forget shipping counts toward this and wonder why the number doesn’t match what they expected.
3. Payment processing fee
A percentage plus a small fixed amount per transaction. Etsy publishes one rate for each payment-account country; the buyer’s location does not select a higher processing tier. Marketplace-collected buyer tax can still increase the amount on which this fee is calculated, so foreign orders may differ by a few cents if that tax is not included in your estimate.
4. Regulatory operating fee (some countries only)

A few markets — the UK and France, for instance — have an extra Etsy fee that doesn’t exist elsewhere, meant to cover local e-commerce and consumer-protection compliance. If you’re in one of those countries, it stacks on top of everything else. Your country’s exact rate is on the calculator.
5. VAT on all of the above
This is the one people get wrong most often. Etsy doesn’t just charge the fees above — it can charge VAT on top of them too, at your country’s standard rate. Whether it does comes down to a single thing: is there a VAT number on file with Etsy? No VAT number, and every line above gets VAT added. Register one, and reverse charge kicks in — Etsy stops adding VAT, and you self-report it instead. There’s more on exactly how that works in our reverse-charge guide.
6. Offsite Ads (conditional)
Etsy sometimes advertises your listings elsewhere — Google, social platforms, that sort of thing. Cross roughly $10,000 in trailing-12-month sales and participation becomes mandatory, but at a lower rate (12%). Below that threshold it’s optional, at a higher 15%, and you can turn it off entirely if you want.
7. Currency conversion fee (conditional)
List in one currency, get paid out in another, and Etsy takes roughly 2.5% for the conversion. Easy to miss because it never shows up on the listing itself, only on the payout.
What this looks like on a real order
Say you’re a Dutch seller, not VAT-registered, selling a €25 item with €5 shipping to someone in the Netherlands. By the time listing fee, transaction fee, processing fee and VAT on all of it come off, you’re keeping somewhere in the mid-€20s — noticeably less than the €30 you might have expected from the sale price alone. Register a VAT number and that same order nets a couple euros more, purely because VAT stops applying to the fees.
The exact numbers move around depending on your country, your VAT status, where the buyer is, whether Offsite Ads is involved. Rather than working it out by hand, or trusting a calculator built for the US market that ignores VAT entirely, just plug your numbers into the Etsy fee calculator for EU sellers above and watch the payout update as you type.
