Etsy Fees Calculator for Italy Sellers

Italian Etsy sellers face a 22% standard VAT rate along with, currently, a small additional Etsy regulatory operating fee — a combination shared with only a couple of other markets on this calculator, which makes Italy one of the more fee-heavy jurisdictions to get right by hand. As with every EU country, the deciding factor for whether Etsy charges VAT on its own fees is whether you've registered a partita IVA (VAT number) with Etsy specifically. Without one, 22% VAT is added to the listing fee, transaction fee, payment processing fee, and the regulatory operating fee. Register your partita IVA with Etsy and reverse charge applies, removing VAT from all of it.

What Italy sellers need to know

A partita IVA is required for most people selling with any regularity in Italy regardless of Etsy's rules, which means many Italian sellers already have one — but that doesn't automatically mean it's been entered into Etsy's system. That's a separate, Etsy-specific step, and sellers who've registered for VAT with the Agenzia delle Entrate but never added the number to their Etsy shop settings are paying VAT on fees unnecessarily.

The core fee structure matches the EU standard: a small flat listing fee converted from USD, a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total including shipping, and a payment processing fee based on the seller's payment-account country rather than the buyer's location. The regulatory operating fee adds a further percentage on top of the order total and carries VAT where applicable.

For reporting, Italy follows the EU-wide DAC7 threshold: 30 sales or €2,000 within a calendar year triggers Etsy reporting your sales data to the Agenzia delle Entrate. As always on this site, a report isn't automatically a tax bill — the two are separate questions worth keeping apart.

Use the calculator above with your real sale prices to see the combined effect of VAT, the regulatory fee, and payment processing on a typical Italian order.

Worked examples

A €15 handmade item, domestic buyer, no VAT number

Revenue €18.50 → total fees €3.13 → Etsy payout €15.37 (16.9% effective fee rate).

A €60 order, EU buyer, VAT-registered

Revenue €60.00 → total fees €7.26 → Etsy payout €52.74 (12.1% effective fee rate).

A €12 digital download, buyer outside the EU, Offsite Ads active

Revenue €12.00 → total fees €4.44 → Etsy payout €7.56 (37.0% effective fee rate).

Frequently asked questions

Does having a partita IVA automatically mean Etsy won't charge me VAT on fees?

Only if that partita IVA is registered with Etsy specifically. Having one for the Agenzia delle Entrate doesn't automatically sync to your Etsy shop settings — that's a separate step.

Does Italy have an Etsy regulatory operating fee?

Yes, currently a small additional percentage on top of the standard fees. See VERIFICATION.md for the sourced, dated figure.

What VAT rate does Etsy use for Italian sellers?

22%, applied to Etsy's fees when no VAT number is on file with Etsy (reverse charge removes it once registered).

What is the DAC7 threshold for Italian sellers?

30 sales or €2,000 per calendar year, reported to the Agenzia delle Entrate.
