Etsy Fees Calculator for Ireland Sellers

Ireland's standard VAT rate is 23%. Ireland is an explicit exception to Etsy's normal EU reverse-charge treatment: Etsy says it charges VAT on applicable seller fees whether or not an Irish seller has submitted a VAT ID. The calculator therefore keeps VAT on the fee lines when Ireland is selected, even if the VAT-number box is checked.

What Ireland sellers need to know

There's currently no Ireland-specific Etsy regulatory operating fee on top of the standard structure. The remaining fee stack is a small flat listing fee converted from USD, a 6.5% transaction fee on the full order value including shipping, and a payment processing fee based on the seller's payment-account country rather than the buyer's location.

Irish sellers operating below the VAT registration threshold set by Revenue often assume they're automatically shielded from VAT on Etsy fees too — but as with every EU country on this site, Etsy's fee-VAT is governed by whether you've registered a VAT number with Etsy specifically, which is a decision independent of whether Revenue currently requires you to register for VAT on your own sales. Many small Irish sellers simply haven't made that Etsy-specific registration and are paying VAT on fees as a result, whether or not they'd otherwise qualify for the domestic VAT registration threshold.

For tax reporting, Ireland follows the EU-wide DAC7 threshold: 30 sales or €2,000 within a calendar year triggers Etsy reporting your sales data to Revenue. As always, being reported doesn't automatically mean tax is owed — particularly for sellers moving on genuinely personal items — but it's a signal worth understanding rather than ignoring.

Use the calculator above with your real numbers and see what the VAT toggle is worth on your typical Irish order.

Worked examples

A €15 handmade item, domestic buyer, no VAT number

Revenue €18.50 → total fees €2.98 → Etsy payout €15.52 (16.1% effective fee rate).

A €60 order, EU buyer, VAT-registered

Revenue €60.00 → total fees €8.34 → Etsy payout €51.66 (13.9% effective fee rate).

A €12 digital download, buyer outside the EU, Offsite Ads active

Revenue €12.00 → total fees €4.35 → Etsy payout €7.65 (36.3% effective fee rate).
